What is Movember?
If you live in the UK, you’ve probably heard of Movember. And how could you not? During the month of November, streets, gyms and stores get covered with leaflets promoting the movement. But what is Movember and when does it take place?
Movember occurs over the month of November. It’s an event for brave men all across the world to come together and grow the biggest and best moustaches possible, to raise awareness and funds towards men’s health and well-being in areas such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
Movember was established by a group of friends over a beer at a pub in Melbourne, Australia. What started as a small way of raising money for men’s health progressed into a full-blown movement with over 5 million supporters across the world, funding over 1,200 men’s health projects across 20 countries. In the UK, the founders of Movember found a good partner in Prostate Cancer UK, who is now the main beneficiary of the campaign in our country.
Since its foundations were laid, Movember has raised over £400 million for men’s health issues, which has all been divided up and invested into different areas related to men’s wellbeing projects.

Taking part in Movember is fairly simple, At the beginning of the month, give yourself a clean shave and start growing! The aim is to raise as much awareness to the cause as possible and encourage friends, family and anyone to help back your Mo. When, eventually, your facial hair will be the talking point of the room, let it take the spotlight and use it to your advantage: let everybody know why you are growing such a beautiful moustache and again, encourage them to do their own research on the campaign and how they can also become part of the Movember movement, even if they can’t grow their own moustache!
